The Freedom Trail, part of Summit Metro Parks, is a paved rail-trail a little over 6 miles long that will eventually connect downtown Akron to downtown Kent. The current eastern end of the trail is at Middlebury Road, where you can ride on the road for only a hundred yards or so to connect to the Portage Hike & Bike Trail for access to Kent.

The Freedom Trail passes through Tallmadge, with easy access to restaurants and other services.

The current western end near is on the University of Akron campus in downtown Akron. You can navigate through a few city blocks to connect with the Towpath Trail.
